There are two important dates coming up for Year 10 students at The Appleton School, Benfleet and James Hornsby, Basildon. The dates are in February and March and it is where the schools run Mock Interview days inviting local businesses and employers to come in and participate. These days are invaluable for the Students giving them a taste of what they can expect at a real interview. Whilst they are Mock interviews there is no doubt the questions asked will often replicate what would be asked at a real interview. The student is encouraged to talk openly about a particular position they have applied for showing the credentials they have and aspirations too.
I have been volunteering at the Mock interview days for a few years now and the feedback from the students via the school has always been fantastic. The students have relished the opportunities to undertake the interview, finding it a bit nerve wrecking at times but an enjoyable opportunity to mix with a local business owner. The more a student can interact with a local business then the more confidence they can gain and this always helps their development. As a local business that employs local people, then I look for enthusiasm, good communication and a team ethos as starters. These attributes are important to my business and I am sure would suit a lot of other business owners too.
So its over to the students to do their preparation and put on clothing that would be suitable for an interview and give it their best shots. There are no right or wrong answers
