CAVS Castle Point Volunteer Awards 2019

We are delighted to have been nominated by the Appleton School in Benfleet, for the contribution we have made towards helping young people at the School.  I have spent many a Friday afternoon at The Appleton School as a volunteer and this work is being recognised as I will be welcomed into this year’s Mayor’s Award at the Castle Point Volunteer Awards . The award ceremony takes place at Runnymede Hall, Thundersley on Saturday 1st June.

This was a total surprise for me as I really enjoy helping out, passing on my skills and expertise to the students who have been so receptive and easy to work with at the school. Julie Hilliker, at the school, works tremendously hard co-coordinating everything making sure everything behind the scenes is organised and we have proved a great team entering the Young Enterprise competitions. Last years, The School won 1st and 2nd prize for having the best website and this year we came second. Perhaps we set the standard last years and others have risen to the challenge. Next year we will need to up our game and see if we can reclaim the top spot.

Competition aside, it is just great to show the youngsters how to update and build a website using WordPress. BWSIT register a domain name, set up the web hosting, do the WordPress installation and install a theme for them. We then show them how they can style the website and the teams are given help and assistance to build the website.

BWSIT are shortly moving premises to Billericay High Street and we are looking to help and encourage people to learn how to set up and develop their own websites. We will be offering some Build Your Own Website Workshops at a low cost, compared to the prices charged by Web Design companies. Please email paul@bwsit.co.uk to find out more.
